Gloriously rich and boozy hot chocolate is a must this winter if you love your chocolate and red wine. It's warm and rich but well balanced and a fun take on your usual mug of hot cocoa!
SERVINGS
4 servings
WHAT YOU NEED
⅔ cup dry red wine (cabernet sauvignon, merlot or shiraz) - we've used De La Tierra Merlot here
⅔ cup chocolate chips or roughly chopped up chocolate block
½ cup half and half
½ cup milk
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon sugar (optional - *see below)
Marshmallows (option - for serving)
METHOD
In a small saucepan over low to medium heat, combine the chocolate, red wine, half and half and milk and stir until chocolate has melted. Once the drink is hot to your liking, remove from the heat and add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
Serve and top with marshmallows if you'd like!
*Sugar is optional and will depend on the wine you have used - if you're using very dry wine, you may need sugar to add sweetness. We suggest taste and add if necessary before taking the drink off the heat.
